BETTABETS HELPS UPLIFT THE COMMUNITY OF TEMBISA THIS MANDELA DAY
The love was shared on Mandela Day 2023 with our people of Tembisa! Our Bettabets Tembisa store took a hard hit during the July looting in 2021, taking us out of business in the area. But our love for the people and the community of Tembisa, that we grew so close to through our years, was not lost. So when the opportunity presented itself, we grabbed it. Life 4 U Foundation was
established in 2013 with the aim of alleviating poverty through its feeding scheme; supporting widows and orphans and youth development in Tembisa, Gauteng. The choice to partner with them was effortless as the love and care that they share with their communities was clear as day. For Mandela Day, Bettabets donated 250 packs of vegetable seeds to support 50 households. We also donated compost and seedlings to develop a vegetable garden for Sethokga Women’s Hostel; plus grocery items to feed 1500 hungry stomachs.
It was a beautifully busy day for everyone involved, which included the team from Life 4 U Foundation, a team from Department of Social Development, as well as our awesome team of 25 volunteers from Bettabets. The teams were split into 3 different groups. The one group went from house to house planting vegetable seeds in the sponsored garden bed. Another team set up camp at the Sethokga Hostel working hard at creating a large vegetable garden. And the third team were chopping and cooking away in the kitchen to make a delicious and healthy hot meal for the surrounding community. At the end of the day, the teams all left exhausted, yet fired up by the good work done for their community. We would like to take a moment to give special thanks to Life 4 U Foundation for your endless support to the community of Tembisa. You did a superb job at creating a day that epitomizes the spirit of Tata Madiba and that of our rainbow nation.
