Community Outreach with Frida Hartley shelter
In South Africa, food insecurity has been found to double the risk of intimate partner violence by men, and with over 20 million South Africans going to bed hungry every night, food security is a cause that holds priority for us all at Bettabets in our work to create a BettaLife for our communities.
On 7 May 2021, we gathered a team of staff members and joined forces with Frida Hartley Shelter to help feed up to 400 men, women and children in the community of Yeoville, Johannesburg. Bettabets donated all grocery items, and our amazing team of volunteers helped prepare, cook & serve the meals.
Much work needs to be done in order to decrease the rate of hunger in the country and overcome the lack of food for its citizens, and we believe that every little bit counts, no matter how big or small.
We applaud all the hero women from the Frida Hartley Shelter for initiating this community outreach programme, for looking past their own challenges to help others in need.
In the words of Mother Teresa, “It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.” And the love was certainly felt on this special day of giving.
