Mobilising the legacy of Nelson Mandela

#Each1Feed1

Lending a helping hand to rural communities with #Each1Feed1

Bettabets is proud to announce its strategic alliance with the Nelson Mandela Foundation in a donor capacity.  The Foundation focuses on contributing to the making of just societies by mobilising the legacy of Nelson Mandela, providing access to information on his life, and convening dialogue on critical social issues. The key objective is finding sustainable solutions to the problems confronting humanity.

Currently our country is facing many hardships due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.  A national lockdown has resulted in many not being able to earn an income, resulting in food insecurity.  Bettabets first involvement with the Foundation was a donation towards #Each1Feed1; an initiative along with  Imbumba Foundation and Kolisi Foundation. The initiative aims to reduce hunger in South Africa by safely and cost-effectively securing quality food and hygiene products and making them available to vulnerable families who need them.

A national food distribution has taken place in many rural areas of the country and Bettabets was involved in the Mpumalanga drive on 15 May 2020. The distribution was in the Nkomazi region at the Odiweni Royal Residence(Esgodlweni) and was hosted by the Royal Family and Inkosi Hhoyi II.  Joining in the volunteer force on that day was well known celebrity Maps Maponyane and professional soccer player Kaiser Motaung Junior. Representing Bettabets were Costa Carastavrakis and Tirnyboy Motau, from the head office marketing department.

The day was spent assembling 150 parcels of key grocery items and personal hygiene products.  Once that was completed the volunteer team assisted in distributing to a selection of vulnerable families that were identified by the Royal Bakangomane Foundation.

“Giving back and grassroots community involvement is important for Bettabets.  At this time of crisis, we are happy to get on board with #Each1Feed1 because we were looking for an initiative that was well run and had far reaching impact in this time of COVID-19” said Costa Carastavrakis.  “The legacy of Nelson Mandela of building a nation can only begin when we come together to assist in times of need.  We are happy that with our donation, a difference was made today”

The #Each1Feed1 campaign is continuing its efforts with further distribution around the country and aims to continue even after the lifting of lockdown restrictions.  As a result donations are welcome and accepted on www.nelsonmandela.org, the website of the Foundation.

Bettabets looks forward to future activities with #Each1Feed1 and The Nelson Mandela Foundation, by assisting to magnify the efforts of such important initiatives.
